Lost Lake Ranch Health Program

Health problems are minimized with a Complete Vaccination Program. All vaccines are given subcutaneously.

COW HERD:
On the way out to pasture in the spring the cows receive their annual booster of Express 5 Modified Live and Ultrabac 7 with Somubac as well as Ivomec Pour-On. The cattle are again given a dose of Ivomec Pour-On in the fall after weaning. During the summer they have Lewis Cattle oilers with Insecticide.

The bred heifers are given 2 shots 21 days apart, of the Scour Bos 9 Vaccine prior to calving. When they are in their 2nd year of calving they are moved into the annual booster program with the rest of the cow herd.

CALVES:
The calves are processed on the way out to pasture with Express 5 Modified Live and Ultrabac 7 with Somubac, as well as Ivomec Pour-On. The heifer and steer calves are dehorned and given a shot of LA penicillin to aid in the healing at this time. The vaccines are then boostered in the fall after weaning along with another dose of Ivomec Pour-On. The heifer calves are moved onto an annual booster program with the rest of the cow herdís spring pasture program. Steers are generally backgrounded and marketed in February or March of the following year.

BULLS:
The bull calves are processed in the spring the same as the rest of the calves minus the dehorning. Their Express 5 Modified Live and the Ultrabac 7 with Somubac are boostered in the fall after weaning, along with another dose of Ivomec Pour-On.

The bullís annual vaccine program starts when they are processed as yearlings for their Yearling Weight and Yearling Scrotal Measurements. At this time booster shots of Express 5 Modified Live and the Ultrabac 7 are given, as well as 2 shots 21 days apart of the Fusoguard Vaccine to aid in the control of foot rot.

As coming 2 year olds, the bulls receive the booster shots of Express 5 Modified Live and Ultrabac 7 with Somubac, along with a booster of the Fusoguard Vaccine and a dose of Ivomec Pour-On. The bulls are also semen tested in April after the risk of freezing is gone.

This has the bulls ready to go into any spring breeding program.
